About Our Speakers

Trevor Burke
DDs, MSc, MDS, MGDS, FDS RCS (Edin), FDS RCS (Eng.), FFGDP(UK), FADM |
Trevor Burke graduated from Queens University in belfast. He worked in general dental practice in Manchester from 1974 to 1996, whilst also working in the Unit of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester. He has been Professor of Primary Dental Care at the University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry since 2000.
Authoring or co-authoring 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals, Trevor has been awarded over 80 research grants. His main research interests include properties and applications of tooth-coloured restorative materials, clinical evaluation of materials and their performance in general dental practice, the design of an index of oral health for clinical audit and quality control, and ill-health retirement among dentists. in 1993 he established the PREP (Product Research and Evaluation by Practitioners) Panel, a group of dentists who carry out research in their practices.
Trevor co-ordinates this group, which has now completed over 50 evaluations of materials and techniques, with the group having grown presently to 30 members. He is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, is on the board od Dental Protection and is the editorial Director of Dental Update.

Castle Ceramics focus for many years has been on metal free aesthetic restorations and implants. Ian is one of 2 UK technicians who has passed the written assessment on his way to full accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and id the only Full member Dental Technician of the British Academy of cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) in the midlands. 2½ years ago Ian was elected co-Chairman of the Midland BACD.
Integrating occlusal knowledge and functional aesthetics is a journey Ian and his dedicated team have pursued over the years, more recently completing Level I the Advancement of Dentistry in the Wirral with Dr John Cranham and Dr. Ian Buckle of the UK Dwason Academy and Roy Higson's 6 day Advanced Restorative Dentistry IRS level course in Poole. Ian is one of the few UK dental technician members of the British Society of Occlusal Studies (BSOS).
Castle Ceramics have embraced the digital revolution, implementing 2 scanners to provide a variety of metal free restorations
Castle Ceramics was the first in the UK to receive live scanned data using the Lava Chairside Oral Scanner (LCOS) system in February 2009, to date they have completed 40 cases. In May 2009 Ian lectured at the ADI conference in Birmingham on the advantages the new Lava Digital Impressioning system and how with on-going updates it will replace conventioanl forms of making in impression.
